Project Undies

Can you drown in cuteness?  If so, please throw me the life preserver because Oh My God, the cuteness is everywhere.

I am in love with these little underwear and the That Darn Kat undies pattern.  In fact, I'm in love with these little underwear like no grown-up should be in love with little kid's underwear.

The love affair began when I downloaded the pattern and realized that it included a separate page for each size so there is no need to trace the pattern. Have I ever told you how much I hate tracing patterns? Because I do.

Please ignore the stray thread hanging out

The love affair continued as the little undies came together and I squealed at their cuteness. Now don't get me wrong, the first pair had a couple of issues with them. In fact, O showed her displeasure with them by peeing on them about five minutes after I put them on her. I'm going to refer to my first pair, therefore, as my teaching pair and here's what they taught me.
1) Use a shallow zig-zag stitch on your machine when sewing with knits as this allows the fabric to stretch more than a straight stitch.
2) A walking foot is my friend.
3) Top stitching is not my friend…but I should probably do it anyway.

Oh and I also learned that you should periodically clean out your serger because if you don't it will die on you in the middle of your project. Oops.

In any case, this really is a fabulous, easy pattern and these little undies are to die for.  So much so that O often randomly asks "Mama, where's my underwear?" at which time I have to remind her that she's not wearing them because she pees all over them.  Needless to say, we're not quite in potty training mode yet.

P.S. O in undies in an elusive animal to photograph...ninety percent of the photos ended up looking like this one.

  9. :) glad to hear that you enjoyed making them and that she love wearing them - I am thinking of trying to upsize the pattern to fit me. My two also go for these in there draws if they are there - so they must be good.

  11. Yep, drowning in cuteness! I looove those! I have that print knit fabric (top photo) and haven't known what to do with it...

Also, I'm terrified to sew with knit. My (stupid) question is: do you use a different thread so that it "gives"?
